CAS#: 7440-33-7
Tungsten metal is a grayish-white lustrous metal that is often brittle and hard to work with. Of all metals in pure form, Tungsten has the highest melting point. It has also good thermal and electrical conductivity. Its electrical conductivity at 0℃ is about 28% of that of silver, the metal with the highest conductivity. In addition, it has a low vapor pressure at high temperatures. Such properties make Tungsten metal an excellent performance material in high-temperature processes.
Tungsten metal powder is used as a filler material in plastic composites, which can substitute for lead in bullets, shots, and radiation shields. Since this element has a similar thermal expansion law to borosilicate glass, it is used for making glass-to-metal seals.
